In Loving Memory of Ryan Vincent Madonna

On Oct. 15, 2007, age 26, of Coraopolis, son of Ralph and Debbie Madonna. Ryan was preceded in death by his sister Tina Madonna. He is survived by a brother Shawn Madonna of Imperial; also survived by many aunts, uncles & cousins. Ryan was a math teacher at West Allegheny High School. He enjoyed sports, camping, fishing, teaching & coaching.

Ryan V. Madonna, a math teacher at West Allegheny High School, died Monday following a weekend accident in which he hit his head on steps at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, his alma mater. He was 26 and lived in Coraopolis.

Mr. Madonna had been visiting the university in Butler County for the school's homecoming.

According to police, sometime after the Saturday homecoming game against Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Madonna fell backward on the stairs outside of an apartment he was visiting and hit his head.

He was flown to Allegheny General Hospital where he died.

Mr. Madonna earned his undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock and then his master's degree in education there in 2003, according to the school's Web site.

He was hired at West Allegheny at the beginning of the 2006-07 school year to teach statistics and serve as a math resource teacher.

He also served as a junior high baseball coach.

In a statement, Principal Daniel Smith called Mr. Madonna "a young professional who was dedicated to the students, staff and community" of the school. Mr. Madonna, the statement said, "will be deeply missed by all."

Where do we begin when it comes to acknowledging the sympathy that our family, friends, neighbors, and community have shown through prayers, visits, cards of condolence and gestures of kindness? Though our lives have all changed since October 13th and our hearts are heavy with the loss of our dear Ryan, our spirits were lifted with the great outpouring of love you all demonstrated.

Please keep Ryan in your thoughts and prayers. Always remember the positive spirit he brought to everything he did. Again, thank you for sharing your love and admiration for Ryan. It was a comfort to us during this difficult time. He will live on forever in our hearts.

Special acknowledgement for flowers, mass cards, food and most of all, your prayers: W.A. Administration, Staff and Students, Board of Directors, Athletic Department, Baseball Boosters and Players, WAEA/PSEA, special thanks to seniors Jaelin Turner and Jared Palonis for organizing the candle light vigil at W.A. Teachers Union, Paraprofessionals, Staff and Administration, Father Mike and Father Rich for the mass, our brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins, friends and neighbors, SRCA camp friends, Slippery Rock Mathematics Department, Ryan's many friends and their extended family, pallbearers, readers, the organist and all who participated in the mass at St. Joseph's. We couldn't have done it without all of you.
